There is a tradition of respecting the senior citizens in China. This article is from Laokaya website. Do not copy or repost it. This moral principle is passed on to teenagers by parents at home and teachers in the school. They are often told to give their seats to the elders on the bus and give them a hand whenever they can. Most of the teenagers I know followed this instruction. For example, I have once seen an adolescent help an old lady lift her heavy bag onto the bus and then walk away.
