The data illustrates the number of men and women working in various employment sectors for the years 1990, 2000 and 2010 respectively.
For these particular years, the retail/shop industry finds no real change. Men employed in this area remain at 13% respectively, whereas the percentage of women dips slightly from 20% in 1990 to 18% in 2010. Workers in the health sector also remains consistent, with a marginal increase, men up to 9% in 2010 from 7% in 1990 and 2000 and women up to 11% in 2010, an increase from 9% back in 1990 and 10% in 2000. Tourism remained steady too, with a small gain, for men from 7% in 1990, increasing year on year to 10% in 2010. Again, the trend applies to women too, an increase from 23% in 1990, eventually arriving at 25% in 2010.
However, these trends fail to apply for the manufacturing industry, with rapid decline regarding both genders. In 1990, 30% of men worked in this area. By 2000, this had decreased to 15% and then by 2010 this declined further to just 10%. Women also found this trend applying to them, a dip from 17% in 1990, to just 5% in 2000 and then further decline, down to 3% in 2010.
In summary, we may conclude that in recent years the manufacturing industry has seen a sharp decrease in employees, particularly between 1990 and 2000, that might indicate a consequence of globalization or modernization of technology . Other industries continue to need people to keep their industries afloat.
