Describe an occasion when you got incorrect information

Well, an occasion when I got incorrect information was during the graduation season of my senior high school. It was a piece of information regarding a detailed analysis of different majors in the university.

That occasion was right after I took the Gaokao, which was the college entrance examination in China. At that time, we were supposed to apply for a specific major we wanted to study before we were officially matriculated into the university.

The only main resource of guidance was a booklet that contained lists of majors from different universities. This booklet was given by our teachers after we took an exam. They let us take it home and have a discussion with our parents for the final decision. I didn’t take issue with the opinions it had because it was printed out by the provincial education authority and was recommended by our school.

I didn’t find anything wrong with it until one day when I flipped it over and saw a page that recommended senior high school graduates to apply for a major of the first-tier university with only third-tier Gaokao scores, which was kind of weird for me as I knew that Gaokao was the fairest exam in China even in the world. How could it be possible to get into this prestigious university without a high score? Then, I realized that it was actually a fake guidance page which was actually an advertisement that was designed in a way quite similar to the previous content page.

Well, I thought this conduct was horrible. You know, it’s highly possible that hundreds of graduates would be misled by this fake page. I wish the authority who is responsible for this booklet could be more strict in selecting the advertisers to be shown on this important booklet.
