I am going to tell you an experience that my cousin taught me how to speak Japanese, the official language of Japan, when I was a kid. It is spoken by over 100 million people and is deeply influenced by Chinese and English. You can find many Chinese characters in it and many words sound similar to English.

It was during the summer holiday of my fifth grade in primary school when my cousin also returned home from university. He was a language genius, who could easily grasp the grammatical rules and master its pronunciation in a short time. What is more important was that he was also a good teacher, really proficient at explaining the difference between the target language and the native one and giving guidance on how to pronounce.
