A person who taught me something was my sister-in-law, named Wang, who worked in a multinational corporation in France.

She was actually my aunt’s daughter who was 8 years older than me. My mom always said I should learn from her in every aspect of life because she was versatile and had great work and life balance.

She actually taught me a lot of things. But, the most interesting and important one for me was the French language. Different from the Jianming Fayu, which was a textbook for non-French major students learning French, she just purposely put me into a French-speaking environment and got me immersed in it.

I remember there’s a day when she invited her friends from France to my house. She taught me how to practice French by talking to native speakers. I thought it was difficult to talk without having a solid foundation of vocab and grammar. However, I was kind of wrong, and she was right. You know, one effective way of learning the language was to blurt it out! I did it by her guidance, and I felt better each time I talk to others in French.

Well, her teaching method was kind of interesting, and I felt a great sense of accomplishment. You know, if I continued cramming for the French vocab and grammar without practicing with real people, I wouldn’t have had such great improvement in speaking. I really appreciated her teaching.
