Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world.Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely.Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

本文题目中有两个关键词--share as much information as possible和share freely:

第二种:share as much information aspossible当中包含免费传播和付费传播,也就是“不封闭“,不管以何种方式,这些信息都最终都被传播出去了;

too important or too valuable to be shared freely就是不传播,类似于“机密“

Understand the question is simple enough–it is basically asking whether or not research in various fields should beshared freely or not.

But there are so many tricky parts to that! Are we talking about government secrets? How should we understand the wordfreely?Should you just focus onscientific research? What if you don’t talk about academic and businessresearch?

To be completely honest,I do not think itis a very good IELTS question even though it is from the real test.I thinksome students might only write about scientific research and some pickyexaminers will mark them down.

你也可以按照上面第二种观点去书写题目:只是注意在进行展开,比如使用举例论证时,举如商业机密,国防技术(defence technology)等等的例子更好,因为更符合“不可以传播”“keep as a secret to the public”“cannot be exposed to the public”

要涉及到题目提及的这三个领域scientific research,business,and the academic world

The question of how much information relevant to various areas of scientific and academicresearch should be shared is becoming more and more important as the pace of technological innovation quickens(好词:可以把作为固定短语背诵-随着技术革新步伐的加快-科技类题目可使用,也可以在短语中加入限制性领域如:As the pace of medical/educationaltechnology innovationquickens,….)and theinternet allows for instant collaboration.Inmy opinion, information is a valuable, potentially dangerous asset and should onlybe shared freely in particular circumstances(在特殊情况下可以分享-specific situation).

Advocates(支持者)of freelysharing information rightly argue that collaborationleads to faster results. This applies to scientists, who can helpeach by offering their individual research results, businesses, which can worktogether as long as they are not competitors on advertising or product development,as well as academics, who need fresh perspectives(new ideas/new views)to push their work to higherplateaus(get better).Take for example the potential for sharing information inthe business world.Google has built their successful advertising business by workingtogether with various companies and sharing information.Google collects avariety of statistics related to users including their location and interests. This information is shared with advertisers who can then better target ads for users. It allows the consumer tosee more relevant products and services and the companiesadvertising to target their audience more efficiently.

While there are decided advantages(显而易见的好处-请背诵使用=clear advantages)like the onementioned above, information is still a valuable asset that individuals and companiesshould safeguard. In a perfect world, wemight expect people to openly share everything they know but the social andeconomic constructions of our actual world make this a naive proposition. One interesting example of thisis from a recent news article about Elon Musk where he explained why his rocketcompany SpaceX does not apply for patents on any new technology. He reasoned(此处为reason这个词的动词使用,可以理解为;to think about thereasons–给予… 辩解-好词,请背诵)that his maincompetitors are governments, not private companies. If his company discloses its innovations then domestic and foreigngovernments can take advantage of the shared technology andpotentially disrupt his business. This is just one example of howsharing can prove damaging(好词:替换have a negative impact–有负面影响-背诵)in a capitalist society.

While thereare decided advantages like the onementioned above,…..is still….;后面给出了真实的例子,例证不能freely share的原因,本段的亮点在于例子,足够具体).

In conclusion, though sharing might be a valid standpoint(好词:=defensible view-尽管分享信息有道理-可背诵)in aperfect world,it is not feasible(impossible)under current global conditions.Instead of looking to increase sharing, governments should do more to support innovative companies and researchers. This will have a larger overall impact.

(尾段总结,首句句型可套用:though doing sth might be a validstandpoint,it is not feasible under….conditions.)

好词:

asset:可数名词:a useful or valuable quality, skill,or person-有价值的人或物,如:Knowledge of languages is a real asset in this sort of work.(语言技能在这种工作中是非常重要/有用的;He'll be a great asset to the team.

patent:the official legalright to make or sell an invention for a particular number of years-专利权,专利,专利品-雅思阅读中也常考到,请积累背诵
