Describe a special day that you went out but didn’t spend much money(a special day out which did not cost too much)
朗文当代英语词典第五版本(LDOCE5)是这样解释的:a trip you make for pleasure on a particular day。
Describe a special day that you went out but didn’t spend much money
You should say:
What day it was
Where you went
What you did
And explain who you were with
When it comes to a special day out that didn’t cost too much, well, I would like to talk about a trip I had to the Huashan Mountain, which is located in the Hua County, somewhere in the east of Xi’an.
I remember it was a summer day before my first semester of college in Xi’an that I went there for the first time. A military officer who once worked with my father in the army invited our family to have a one-day trip to this world-renowned scenic spot. We got up extremely early in the morning like 5 pm and drove to the foot of the mountain and began climbing. The mountain wasn’t like the traditional single peak one, it’s actually kind of a combination of many. We climbed all four summits at one go. That’s was probably the most energy-consuming activity during that whole year, but it’s definitely worth it!
Although we were fully prepared for this trip, it seemed none of us felt so confident about every detail of small scenic spots, because there’s quite a lot for you to discover along the way, and we didn’t find any single chance of being bored. Do not copy or repost it. When we reached the highest southern summit of the mountain, we felt a kind of sense of achievement.
We all felt this was a really healthy and money-saving trip. Because we just spend no more than 300 RMB for beverages and the entrance tickets during the whole trip. And we got more fitness exercises compared to those who hit the gym with more than 300 RMB membership fees.
Someone said that it’s sometimes dangerous to go to those huge mountains, but I have to say that we only live a life for once, why not try it? Basically, it’s not that risky, right?
Describe an interesting person you would like to meet
You should say:
Who this person is
What this person does
Why you think this person is interesting
And what you want to do with this person
The person I am going to tell you is Yue Yunpeng. He is a famous Chinese comic actor, who mainly performs Xiangsheng, which is also known as crosstalk, one of China’s most popular cultural elements. It is usually practiced by two people, one to entertain the audience, the other to control the pace.
I knew him from a radio program on my way home. It was a long train journey. After the first two hours, I was so bored. Then I noticed that my neighbor was listening to something from his radio and laughed to tears. Do not copy or repost it. I was curious and asked if we could listen to it together. He agreed and that was the first time I heard his performance.
The program was so funny that I felt I became his fan immediately. When I got home, I went to the Internet and searched for his other performances. All of the audios were quite amusing. I even downloaded some into my cellphone so that I could hear it whenever and wherever I want.
If I could ever meet him, I wanted to ask him some questions about his life story. I have known that he did not finish his high school and used to be a waiter. But how did he get into the business of performance? There are huge differences between these two industries. And where does he get so many funny ideas? I want to know the secret.
Describe a place where you often visit with your friends or family
Describe a place where you often visit with your friends or family
You should say:
Where the place is
How you know the place
How you go there
And explain why you want to visit
A place I often visit with my family is a park named Zizhuyuan, which is located in Haidian District, Beijing. I knew it since my family moved to that district in Beijing.
It’s not so far from where I live. We usually visit this park after dinner within just 10 minutes walk. This park is not as big as those parks like the Summer Palace, Beihai Park or something, but actually, it’s got the most things that other parks have except for some historic buildings. Do not copy or repost it. What I love the most about this park is that this park has very nice and tranquil environment, which is really an escape from my busy life in Beijing.
I think the main reason why I want to visit there is that this park gives our family a chance to have a walk to keep fit if there’s no haze during the day. Also, the park has got some interesting entertainment facilities. For example, right before the Spring Festival, the surface of the lake in the park was frozen, and we could actually experience some skiing there.
Describe a good law in your country
You should say:
What it is
How you knew it
And explain why it is good
Well, I would like to talk about a newly issued law in my hometown. It’s the right of way. It hasn’t been enacted until last winter in my hometown and has worked pretty well so far.
It was actually during the last Spring Festival that I realized this traffic law because that was the only period of time when I was in my hometown for a break from work in the entire year.
I clearly remember that it was a cold and snowy winter day. I was walking on my way home when I finished my cup of coffee in the Starbucks. There was a crossroad that had no traffic light, and I was intuitively waiting for the car to pass so that I could pass through later. However, the car that was approaching me braked and waited for me to go. Do not copy or repost it. You know, that moment was unexpected to me. I was kind of dragged back to somewhere like in New Zealand or Canada, where there’s a kind of right of way traffic law. I could feel a sense of warmth swung up on my body. This traffic law was so nice! Though the lawbreakers would be fined 300 RMB if they disobey this law, which might cause some loss for the drivers, I think it is a good sign, because our government has gradually realized the importance of taking the safety of the pedestrians into consideration.
Describe a memorable story told by someone
Describe a memorable story told by someone
You should say:
Who told you the story
When you heard the story
What the story was about
Explain why you found it memorable
The story I am going to talk about is the Hare and the Tortoise. I know it is a very simple story and you have probably heard about it. But it is the first story that came to my mind when I saw this task card.
Until I was 5 years old, I was raised by my grandma. Though she did not attend a college, she knew a great number of fables. The most impressive one of all the stories she had told is the hare and the tortoise.
As its name suggests, this story is about a race between the hare and the tortoise. Most people believed that the hare would definitely be the winner and the tortoise must have lost its mind to agree to the race. Do not copy or repost it. So did the hare. If I was bound to win, why do not I take a rest? It would not affect the result. So the hare took a rest and when it woke up, the tortoise had reached the finish line and won the race.
I found the story memorable because despite its simplicity, it is very thoughtful. It told me that if you are a talented man like the hare, do not relax on the journey of life, or you will lose your edge. If you are a normal person or not that sharp like the tortoise, please do not give up, because you still have a chance to win the game.
Describe a piece of technology (not computer-related) you like to use
Describe a piece of technology (not computer-related) you like to use
You should say:
What the technology is
When it was invented
What it is used for
How do you feel about it
The technology I am going to tell you is the autonomous car, which enables vehicles on the road to drive themselves and may turn the term ‘driver’ into history. The cars, not the human, will decide the speed, travel routes and whether to press the brakes.
This technology has been in human’s mind for a long time. There are many science fictions depicting future transportation systems without drivers on them. But it was nothing more than a fantasy until recently. With the breakthrough of other technologies, we finally see the possibilities of a driverless transportation system. Do not copy or repost it. Last month, Baidu, one of the biggest companies in China, tested its autonomous car on the busy road in Beijing, and Netherland decided to introduce a driverless bus route in 2020.
This technology will bring a radical change to human’s transportation system. Cars adopted autonomous systems will not be affected by human emotions, not get tired for driving too long, and never break the traffic laws. It may eradicate traffic accidents and gradually eliminate traffic lights because it does not need one. Imagine that, when you get into a car, you can watch a movie, chat with your friends or have some drink, waiting for the car to reach your destination. During the journey, the last thing you need to worry about is driving. What a fantastic future.
Describe a historical period that you are interested in 感兴趣的历史时期
Describe a historical period that you are interested in
You should say:
What the historical period is
How you know it
What happened during that period
why you find it interesting
The historical period I am going to talk about is the core era. It is a concept came up by Karl Jaspers, a German philosopher, in his book, ‘the Origin and Goal of History;. It refers to the period from 600 A.D. to 300 A.D.
The first time I heard this phrase was in the history of western philosophy, a course in my senior year. After reading some reference materials, I found this era was amazing. Almost at the same time, great men were born in the four isolated great ancient civilizations. China had Confucius. India had Sakyamuni. Greece had Socrates. And Egypt had prophets. Do not copy or repost it. The theories put forward by these men dramatically changed the way people perceived the world, affected the development of philosophies in the following 2000 years, and laid the foundation of different characteristics of those countries. There is a saying that all the theories and ideas generated after the core era are making annotations for those sages’ thoughts.
The fascinating point about the core era is that these countries did not have much communication then, but almost simultaneously produce their national philosophies. How did they achieve that? Did they somehow secretly reach an agreement?
Describe a good service you received
Describe a good service you received
You should say:
What the service is
When you received it
Who you were with
How do you feel about it
The good service I am going to talk about is provided by a waiter in Haidilao, a famous hotpot restaurant in China. It was about half a year ago when my classmates and I had just finished our exams of the senior year in college and decided to have a feast to compensate our wounded heart. We chose the popular Haidilao as our venue.
There, I received the best service I had ever had. The waiter saw that I was wearing glasses. He handed me wet wipes to clean them as soon as I was seated. He also gave us small plastic bags, in which we could slide our cellphones, in case the hotpot soup splashed on the screens. When I was ordering dishes, he noticed that I constantly cleared my throat and sneezed now and then. He gently asked if I had a cold and I said yes. Do not copy or repost it. A moment later, he served me a bowl of ginger soup, which is believed to be the cure of cold in traditional Chinese medicine, and said it was on the house, hoping I could recover soon.
I really enjoy the service in Haidilao, not because it provided a lot of small useful items, but because you could feel that the waiter there truly cared about you. They took all the troubles into account and tried to fix them. That is why I think their service is good.
Describe a good photo of you taken by someone
Describe a good photo of you taken by someone
You should say:
Where it was taken
When it was taken
Who took it for you
Why it was unforgettable for you
The photo I am going to tell you is about me in a football match. Every year, my university will organize a school-wide football league. Each academy sends its own team to fight for the honor. The venue is within our school, which has a professional-level football pitch.
The photo was taken during the semifinal. If we defeated our opponents, we would break the record of our academy and have a chance to fight for the champion. It was ten minutes before the end of the game and our scores are even, 3 to 3. The team who scored first would seal the victory. Do not copy or repost it. As a striker, I kept moving to look for an opportunity. Finally, the ball came to me. I dribbled past a fullback and there was only the goalkeeper in front of me. I swung my leg and shot. Just then, my classmate who had been watching the game took a picture with his cellphone.
In the photo, my body slightly leaned to the left, my red jersey was blown upwards by the wind, and my foot just touched the ball, which changed its shape. Next second, the football flew into the gate and we won the game. Unfortunately, we lost in the final and missed the champion. This made this match and the photo more impressive. I will never forget it.
Describe an interesting place that few people know
You should say:
Where it is
When you go there
And explain why few people know there
Secret Cllif
