Describe a photograph of you that you like
该P2话题卡的核心在于a photography of you (你自己的照片)。
Describe a photograph of you that you like
You should say
Where it was taken
When it was taken
Who took it
And explain how you felt about it
A photograph of me that I enjoy is the one taken in Badaling Great Wall, which is located in Beijing.
I couldn’t remember the exact date when it was taken. But, I’m pretty sure it was during the summer holiday before I went to the first grade of primary school. My father was about to have a business trip to Beijing, and his company allowed him to bring family members. So, he took my mother and me there.
My father took this picture near a famous stone tablet which was inscribed with a sentence written by Mao Tsedong, who is one of the first leaders of this nation. The inscription can be translated in English as One who fails to reach the Great Wall is not a hero.
Well, I felt extremely excited to have a picture like this. One of the reasons is that it has a perfect composition. You know the nice posture, the unique tablet, and the stunning background view of the Great Wall are something worth showing off to my friends. It also made me feel grateful when I looked at the picture. You know, being able to go to Beijing and appreciate one of the great wonders of the world at that time was a luxurious thing for my peers.
Describe a person you have seen who is beautiful or handsome
Describe a person you have seen who is beautiful or handsome
You should say:
who this person is
When and where you first met
What personality he or she has
and explain why you think this person is beautiful or handsome
The handsome person I am going to tell you is Xiaoming, who was my classmate and roommate back in high school. The first time I met him was on the enrolment day. When I finally completed the complex registration process and carried the huge box of my belongings to the dormitory, he was already there. He has made his bed and was standing in front of a mirror, adjusting his clothes.
Noticing my arrival, he turned around, said hello, took the various stuff off my hand and put them on the ground, which was a great help. He was wearing jeans and a white jacket, with a pink shirt inside. He had sparkling eyes and a high-bridged nose. His skin was as white as pearls and his hair was divided at the side.
He seemed to value his appearance very much. Every morning, he spent a lot of time picking clothes and taking care of his hair. Even during the class, he would take out a small mirror to check whether his hairstyle was mussed.
His appearance brought him many conveniences. When doing some group work or team project, people would volunteer to be his partner and do most of the task. When he and other students made some mistakes, teachers were more likely to pardon him and blame others. I really envied him.
Describe a person who you think wears unusual clothes
Describe a person who you think wears unusual clothes
You should say:
Who this person is
How you knew this person
What his/her clothes are like
And explain why you think his/her clothes are unusual
A person who I think wears unusual clothes is my brother-in-law who is two years younger than me.
My brother is now a third-year senior high school student. His biggest goal is to go to the UK to further his studies in Fine Arts or Fashion Design. I knew my brother since childhood. You know, he’s been passionate about arts for many years. I grew up watching his paintings. I should say, he has indeed got a talent in this field.
But, it was during recent years that I began to realize that he picked up the habit of dressing up himself. He has a myriad of clothes which are of different kinds. Each of them has a unique design. For example, I remember there is one shirt that looks like what typical white collars wear as a whole. However, the cuffs of the shirt are garnished with ribbons and stars. When he wears it, it really looks like he was in a catwalk show.
You know, those clothes are hardly worn by average people on the street or in their workplace. They were even hardly seen in a fashion show as he often did some tailoring after he bought them home. So, that’s probably the main reason why I think they are quite unusual. But, anyway, I always gave him my encouragement by complimenting his designs even though not all of them were to my taste.
Describe a person who you think is very open
Describe a person who shows his or her feelings openly
但是,open这个词更为准确的含义是honest; not keeping thoughts and feelings hidden。
Describe a person who you think is very open
You should say
Who this person is
How you knew this person
Why you think this person is very open
And explain how you feel about this person
A person who, in my opinion, looks very open is my best friend Han Lin in college.
He’s a student majoring in Physics, which is one of the most well-received majors in our university.
I knew Han since I moved into college while I was a freshman and became one of his dormmates. I actually did not talk to him quite often at the very beginning as our majors were quite different. You know, I was studying History and he was delving into the science field. But, it was during dinner time that we gradually became familiar with each other.
Well, the reason why I thought he was very open was that he was a person who did not conceal his ideas and was always willing to do me a favor when I had some questions in my head. You know, he kept me informed of what he was thinking about and dared to give any suggestions to me, which made me think he was truly a friend.
I felt so honored to have a friend like this, and I hope I could become a person with the same merit.
Describe a person who you are happy to know
Describe a person who you are happy to know
You should say:
Who this person is
How you know this person
What he or she is like
And explain why you are happy to know him or her
The teenager I am going to tell you is Xiaoming. He is a 17-year-old boy. He loves wearing a white sports suit and a red pair of sneakers. His hair is in a buzz-cut style and he has thick bushy eyebrows, big sparkling eyes, and a high-bridged nose, very handsome.
I met him by chance. It was a Saturday. After a week’s intensive study, I needed some fresh air and exercise to relax my mind and stretch my body. So I went hiking in a small mountain near my city. It was almost lunchtime when I reached the resting area. I decided to take a break and have some food. Unfortunately, there was not any free table left. Then I noticed Xiaoming was sitting alone. I stepped forward and asked him if we could share the table. He said yes.
Quite naturally, we started to chat with each other. It turned out that he was also a big fan of hiking. We talked about the different walking sticks, shoes, and outdoor jackets. When we finished our food, we set off together and kept talking on the road. In the end, we exchange our contact details and decided to go hiking together next week.
He is a good hiking partner. Every time, he would prepare extra food and water in case I forget to bring my own. He also knows many first-aid skills, like how to treat wounds and sprains. So I do not need to worry about getting injured. I feel reassured with him hiking together.
Describe a person who taught you something
Describe a person who taught you something
You should say:
Who this person is
What he/she is like
What he/she taught you
And how you felt about him/her
A person who taught me something was my sister-in-law, named Wang, who worked in a multinational corporation in France.
She was actually my aunt’s daughter who was 8 years older than me. My mom always said I should learn from her in every aspect of life because she was versatile and had great work and life balance.
She actually taught me a lot of things. But, the most interesting and important one for me was the French language. Different from the Jianming Fayu, which was a textbook for non-French major students learning French, she just purposely put me into a French-speaking environment and got me immersed in it.
I remember there’s a day when she invited her friends from France to my house. She taught me how to practice French by talking to native speakers. I thought it was difficult to talk without having a solid foundation of vocab and grammar. However, I was kind of wrong, and she was right. You know, one effective way of learning the language was to blurt it out! I did it by her guidance, and I felt better each time I talk to others in French.
Well, her teaching method was kind of interesting, and I felt a great sense of accomplishment. You know, if I continued cramming for the French vocab and grammar without practicing with real people, I wouldn’t have had such great improvement in speaking. I really appreciated her teaching.
Describe a person who taught you a kill when you were a child
Describe a person who taught you a skill when you were a child
You should say
Who this person was
What the skill was
How you learned it
And explain how you felt about this person
I am going to tell you an experience that my cousin taught me how to speak Japanese, the official language of Japan, when I was a kid. It is spoken by over 100 million people and is deeply influenced by Chinese and English. You can find many Chinese characters in it and many words sound similar to English.
It was during the summer holiday of my fifth grade in primary school when my cousin also returned home from university. He was a language genius, who could easily grasp the grammatical rules and master its pronunciation in a short time. What is more important was that he was also a good teacher, really proficient at explaining the difference between the target language and the native one and giving guidance on how to pronounce.
His teaching method was quite interesting. Instead of giving me a textbook, he took advantage of the Japanese anime I loved. He carefully chose lines from different characters and analyzed them word by word so that I could learn the general principle behind them. And I should say this method was quite effective. After that summer, I had already been able to watch anime without subtitles.
I was quite thankful to him, not only because with this skill, I could enjoy more works that had not been translated into Chinese, but also it gained me an advantage in the job market.
Describe a person who often travels by plane
Describe a person who often travels by plane
You should say:
Who he or she is
Where he or she goes
Why he or she travels by plane
And explain how he or she feels about it
A person who often travels by plane is my uncle who is my mother’s little brother.
My uncle is now working for a giant company as a director who is mainly responsible for international trade and finance. As you can tell from his title. It involves a lot of international air travel. It’s like half of his time in a year has been spent on business trips.
The company that my uncle works for has many business projects all around the globe. So, there’re countless destinations for him to travel to while he’s working, for example, Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia. But, from my observation, the U.S is the place that he flew to the most because their company has a strong tie to the American market even though there’s a tension now between China and the U.S..
Well, the reason why he travels by plane is that the airplane is the most efficient means of transportation. You know, it only takes less than a day to go to any place around this world.
In my uncle’s eyes, air travel is not something he’s quite passionate about, but a choice he has to choose because of the work. By that I mean, he doesn’t hate it.
Describe a person who often helps others
Describe a person who often helps others
You should say:
who this person is
how often this person helps others
how this person helps others
why this person helps others
and how you feel about this person
Well, a person who often gives a hand to others that I would like to say is actually Wang Jie, who is a fellow student of mine in college.
Wang is a super kind person who often does a favor to anyone he meets on campus and even in life. This often makes me feel like he is a living Bodhisattva, making contributions to others while expecting no rewards.
Wang and I are both students majoring in Computer Sciences which is actually not that easy for me to grasp. You know he was always the first guy who helped me out in my learning curve. I clearly remember there was a time that he even burnt the midnight oil helping me to make up for the lesson that I missed after I had finished my sick leave, which made me so touched.
Well, I think the reason why Wang Jie is always ready to help others is that he has a pretty good philosophy that guides him to be kind and generous to people. He believes that to help people is to help himself, which I strongly agree with.
I feel truly grateful for having a friend like this, and he is definitely the kindest person I have met in college.
Describe a person who made you laugh happily when you were a child
Describe a film or TV program that made you laugh
Describe a person who made you laugh happily when you were a child
You should say:
Who this person is
What this person did to make you laugh
Why this person made you laugh
And how you felt about it
I want to say something about Chen Peisi, who was a very famous Chinese comic actor and really made me laugh to tears while I was a kid.
Chen was a skinhead with a kind of happy face, and a long mustache, which made me feel a little bit weird at first sight. I wasn’t aware of this actor until I saw a comedy acted by him during my elementary school life. I couldn’t remember the name of that movie, but it was pretty funny.
I clearly remember there was a scene where he got a newly bought Simmons mattress with a quite reasonable price. He was like on top of the world as he felt like he got a great bargain. However, this mattress was actually a fake one, and he didn’t know that until one night he lied on the bed, and was penetrated by a long protruding spring. He was immediately sent to the hospital. You know what, this horrible thing happened again when he took his second mattress.
Well, one of the reasons I think why Chen made me laugh was that his facial expression was so exaggerating. When unpleasant things happened, he often responded in a funny way. You know, I feel like if Charlie Chaplin is the King of comedies in the west, then Chen Peisi is definitely the one in the east.
Describe a person who is good at his or her job
Describe a person who is good at his or her job
You should say:
Who this person is
What his or her job is
How he or she likes the job
And explain why this person is good at the job
The person I am going to talk about is my grandpa, who is a translator working at the Chinese foreign ministry. His job involves translating Japanese documents, newspapers, and statements into Chinese as well as accompanying diplomatic officials to meet Japanese representatives so that they can perfectly understand each other.
He has been doing this for over thirty years. At first, he was just a low-rank employee, working at a small cell and buried by tons of papers. Every document he had processed had to be checked by senior staff to avoid potential mistakes. But now he is eligible to check others’ work and decide the specific translation of some controversial words and sentences to make sure they are accurate and convey the original meaning.
Being a translator had always been my grandpa’s dream and he had shown a gift for this from quite an early age. He could easily grasp the grammatical rules behind Japanese and master its pronunciation in a short time. Naturally, he chose Japanese as his major when he entered college and enrolled in the foreign ministry after graduation since it was the only department that recruited Japanese translators back then.
I think the success my grandpa has achieved in his job mainly results from his passion for this career. He really loves Japanese and enjoys the process of translating. When he finally finds the correct translation of a certain word after a lot of consultation, he can feel a sense of achievement rather than relief.
Describe a person who has interesting ideas or opinions
Describe a person who has interesting ideas or opinions
You should say:
Who this person is
What this person does
How you know him
And explain why you think his or her ideas and or opinions are interesting
I would like to talk about a friend of mine whose name is Wang Jiang. Wang and I have been intimate friends since our childhood. He’s now an electrical engineer serving for the Xiaomi Company in Wuhan.
I knew him because his family was living next door in our apartment building, and we often played together when both of our parents were busy working. I remember there was a time at his apartment, I saw him building some unique devices and contraptions to perform simple tasks. For instance, there’s a mini-fan controlled by a remote controller created by himself. It worked perfectly in the summer. You know, this was long before smart-devices became popular for home automation. Honestly, I thought it was no big deal at that time, but looking at our lives nowadays, it seems that our lives couldn’t become easier without those useful smart devices.
Well, I think the reason why his ideas are interesting is that those ideas are unique and indeed constructive. You know, those designs might not be implemented completely in our society, but they truly have a great impact on our peers. Many of our friends got inspiration from him and have gone on an engineering path in their career.
Describe a person who encouraged and helped you to achieve a goal
Describe a person who encouraged and helped you to achieve a goal
You should say:
who this person is
what this person encouraged you to do
how this person helped you
And explain why this encouragement helped you to achieve your goal
A person who encouraged and helped me to reach a goal is Xiao Xiao, who is my older sister in my family.
Xiao is eight years older than me. She is now working in the PricewaterhouseCoopers, which is one of the biggest corporations from the United Kingdom. She is hardworking and always makes people feel that she is energetic every day even though there’s much workload for her.
My sister has always been my first mentor in my life since the first day I got into elementary school. As she is eight years older than me, she could give me a myriad of tips and detailed guidance on schooling and life perspectives, which I feel grateful.
I remember there was a time when I was preparing for the Gaokao, which is the college entrance examination in China, Xiao was the person I could fall back on. My goal was to nail it so that I could get into an ideal college. You know, math was a horrible subject that tormented me the most. I just somehow couldn’t figure out the questions. Since she has been through this, she constantly consoled me and gave me instruction as much as she could. She kept telling me that ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’. You know what, that sentence made me feel pumped as I was surely aware that my sister managed to strive to be a straight-A student from scratch. With this belief, I eventually got good scores in that crucial exam during my life and was matriculated to my ideal college.
The reason why I felt her encouragement worked was that my sister was a role model for me. You know, although she was not in the same situation, the same core essence of not giving up enabled me to carry on.
Describe a person in the news who you want to meet
Describe a person in the news who you want to meet
You should say:
Who this person is
Where you knew him/her
What he/she is like
And explain why you want to meet him/her
A person in the news that I would like to meet is actually Ren Zhengfei, who is the founder of Huawei, which is now the world’s largest manufacturer of telecommunications equipment.
I knew him since I moved to Beijing, where many of my friends and friends of my parents talked about his giant company and its success. The most impressive piece of news that I’ve heard about him and his company was that Huawei, in Ren’s leadership, recruited employees with exceptionally higher rates than its competitors, which really amazed me. No wonder lots of college graduates wanted to join them every year.
At the very beginning, while I was searching for his profile out of curiosity, I found he looked like just an ordinary old man like my grandfather. However, that stereotype in my mind had changed after I saw an interview on TV. He was being so honest and humble, which was a rare quality I found among successful entrepreneurs. He acknowledged the merits of technological development that other countries like the U.S. had and encouraged us to learn from them.
Well, the reason why I want to meet him is that I would like to ask him a question regarding how to maintain a good mentality during the course of ups and downs in life. You know, it’s difficult for us and especially harder for him as a person who was responsible for such a giant tech company in which thousands of employees are in the same boat no matter what happens. I should say, he’s a great role model for me, and I really want to meet her in the near future if I got a chance.
Describe a performance you watched recently
Describe a performance you watched recently
You should say
What it was
When you watched it
Who you were with
And explain why you watched it
A performance that I watched recently was a ladyboy show presented by a theatre in Thailand.
I remember that was the very first exaggerating show that I’ve ever watched in my life. The performance was conducted by a number of performers who changed their biological male gender when they were kids. The performance was a T-show kind of like those Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows, but they had their own dressing styles. I have to say that they were amazingly beautiful, and they were even hotter than real women.
I watched this performance last summer while I was traveling with my senior high schoolmates on our graduation trip to Thailand. You know, we didn’t mean to watch to purposely. We were actually on a day trip to Bangkok where the tour guide told us it’s a compulsory activity of our tour group.
I was with my three other classmates, and there were also some middle-aged women who I thought were enjoying their retirement life.
Well, part of the reason why I watched it was that, as I mentioned, it’s a compulsory one on our day trip. We didn’t have an option. But, honestly, I was a bit curious about the ladyboys, and such a grand performance conducted by them at that time. So, I really wanted to take a look at it.
Describe a perfect job you would like to have in the future
重点核心词是perfect(完美)。
Describe a perfect job you would like to have in the future
You should say:
What it is
How you knew it
What it is like
And explain why you think it is perfect
The most ideal job I’d like to get in the future is working as a librarian.
It is a job that involves a lot of physical and mental work, for example, classifying books and providing some academic assistance to the readers, etc.
Well, I knew it since the first time I went to the library as a kid. But, it was in the second year of college when I was an exchange-program student in the United States that gave me a complete understanding of this job.
I remember I had a paper to be done, but somehow couldn’t find several books I had to refer to in the school library. You know, the entire building has countless stacks labeled with alphabetical letters that made me feel clueless. So, I turned to a librarian who was a really kind middle-aged lady. She helped me decipher all those mysterious codes on the stacks and even taught me some small tricks on how to find the academic materials efficiently. You know, It seems that she knows no less than a prof!
Well, the most important reason why I think it is a perfect job is that being a librarian grants me an opportunity to be immersed in an environment where I could read all those books whenever I want. Plus, it is well paid, and I don’t have to worry about my living. It’s like killing two birds with one stone, isn’t it?
Describe a part of a city or town you enjoy spending time in
Describe a part of a city or town you enjoy spending time in
You should say:
Where it is
What it is like
What you do there
And explain why you enjoy spending time there
The place I am going to tell you is a small library that has just been constructed, funded by the government. It is located in a huge park next to my community, about 15 minutes’ walk away. But since I rarely took a walk in it, I actually knew this place from an article posted by my neighbors on social media. It not only gave an explicit introduction to the facilities the library was equipped with, but also involves a large number of pictures about what it looked like.
The library is in the center of the park. Even from the pictures, you can tell the environment around is wonderful. Various trees and flowers embrace the building and an artificial lake lies in front of it. moreover, since it is separated from the road by plants, it is also very quiet。
The library does not occupy a huge area, only 40-50 square meters. Unlike the normal buildings, which are made of concrete and steels, most of the library is made of glass. And to avoid the sunshine turning it into a warm house, it has been equipped with thick curtains. In it, five bookshelves are arranged in the center and about 12 tables are laid against the walls.
I want to go there because I feel it would be a perfect place to read and write. Although there is a study in my home, the distractions are just too many. I cannot resist the temptation of video games, TV programs, and computers. By contrast, in the library, surrounded by people craving for knowledge, I am forced to concentrate on study.
Describe a newly built facility (such as parks, cinemas etc.) that influences your city.
Describe a new public facility, such as a road, a park, or a shopping center, which improves your local area(改善当地情况)两道题基本一致,这道题目特别考验雅思考生的生活观察能力,要找到最近新修建的公共设施,而且对你的城市有影响。
Describe a newly built facility (such as parks, cinemas etc.) that influences your city.
You should say:
what facility it is;
where it is located;
who uses this public facility;
and explain how it improves your local area.
A new public facility which improves my local area is the ice rink, which has just been renovated this year.
This rink is actually located in the center of Zi Zhu Yuan, which is a park in Weigongcun, Haidian district. This place is quite near to the place where I live. It’s probably ten minutes’ walk from my home to the park. So, I often went there to unwind after work.
This park has many different areas of creation like the artificial lake for boating, and some small square for seniors go square dancing. But, only the newly furnished rink has met the needs of all residents ranging from the kids to the old. You can expect excitement brought by different ice tracks, high and low. Do not copy or repost it. Most of the time, I saw more children than adults played there during the weekdays, but the whole area usually got filled with people of different ages during the weekends. There were lots of people laughing and jubilating, which was an extremely joyful scene.
Well, I think rink has brought a lot of benefits to the residents nearby. It provides a great opportunity for families to gather together and to spend some quality time there. You see, lots of people are busy working or studying in this city, they don’t have many near places to relax. Now, they have one more good option!
Describe a new skill you learned that you think is important
Describe a new skill you learned that you think is important
You should say:
What it is
Whether it is difficult or not
How you learned it
And explain why you think it is important
A new skill I learned that I think is important is actually driving.
It’s actually a basic skill that most of the college students and office-goers would probably want to be equipped with.
I should say it’s quite difficult for beginners as we have zero knowledge about driving or even about vehicles and the road signs. Being a person who often walked to school, I only knew that the green light is for us to go, and the red light is to stop. Whereas, being able to drive, I gotta learn literally everything about the road and vehicles. Even if I got the driver’s license, it took a lot of effort and time for me to get accustomed to driving in different traffic conditions.
I learned this new skill from my uncle who was an experienced driver driving both private vehicles and huge trucks. So, he was the first person who let me have the hands-on experience that enabled me to pass the driving test within two months.
Well, the reason why I think it’s an essential skill for me is that driving can make my daily commute easier. In the past, I had to wait for at least 5 minutes for the bus to come and probably another half an hour for other passengers to get on and off the bus, which was really time-consuming. But now, I could drive by myself with less time, and it’s more comfortable than taking a bus.
Describe a new public building you would like to visit
Describe a new public building you would like to visit
You should say
where it is
what it is like
how you knew this place
and why you would like to visit it
The public place I am going to tell you is the city library, which has just been completed last month. It is located in the southeastern corner of the city. At first, the government wanted to construct it in the city center, but there was not enough space. Despite its remote location, it has convenient transport. There is an underground station in front of the library and several bus stops around it.
The library is made up of two large high-rise buildings connected by a sealed bridge in the air. Some people like to stand on it and appreciate the view of the city. The building on the left is where books are borrowed and returned. In it, over 1 million books are stored. The building on the right is equipped with concert halls, meeting rooms, and a cinema, where various activities can be held.
I got to know this place from the news on the same day when the library opened to the public. It was a Friday. After a day’s intensive study, I went to the canteen to have dinner by myself. It was a little bored to eat alone, so I held my cellphone with one hand and browsed through the news when I was eating. Then I saw the relevant report.
It would be a good place to read books and finish my homework. Surrounded by other people craving for knowledge, my productiveness will also increase. That is why I want to visit it.
